July 22, 2013…The Chinese government plans to release national standards that LED lighting products must follow in 2014, according to Taiwan-based LED makers cited in a Digitimes article. China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine is reportedly drawing up regulations on technical specifications for LED lighting, according to the article. The specification will classifiy performance and safety in four grades for all LED lighting products. For example, residential products must comply with Grade 0 and 1 standards. The article noted that the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) LED lighting standards adopted in Europe and North America are not compulsory specifications in China. The standards are expected to help LED chip packaging houses or LED lighting makers of Taiwan, including Everlight Electronics, Lite-On Technology, Delta Electronics and Edison Opto, to become more competitive in China and internationally in terms of product quality, performance, and cost.
